Content Updates
As part of our rigorous editorial updating process, Phoenix Medical Publishing monitors safety information issued by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) via their MedWatch Safety Alerts, the European Medicines Agency, and the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) via their Medicines Safety Updates. FDA-approved indications and dosing information in adults and children are also reviewed by our editorial team and included in selected monographs.
Medsafe, the New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority, advised health professionals that the Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring (CARM) has received seven reports of cardiomyopathy associated with the use of quetiapine. The duration of quetiapine use ranged from six months to five years. Although unconfirmed, it is suggested that a hypersensitivity myocarditis is the likely mechanism.
Safety updates to apraclonidine (ophthalmic), darifenacin, epoprostenol, etoposide, latanoprost, levonorgestrel (intrauterine-systemic), meloxicam, montelukast, pramipexole, pregabalin and ustekinumab.
Extension of indications to ribavirin and peginterferon alfa-2b combination.
